Fight Like a Girl – Girls’ Night Out To Fight MS Event Recap
September 28th marked the 8th annual Girls’ Night Out to Fight MS event hosted at Noble’s Pond. For eight consecutive years, the Noble’s Pond and surrounding community have rallied together to help raise awareness and funds to fight Multiple Sclerosis, an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the body. This event is near and dear to the heart of our Lifestyle Director, Colleen Ostafy, whose daughter was diagnosed with MS.
Each year, Girls’ Night Out grows in participation and contributions. 2019’s fun-filled night featured Designer Bag Bingo, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, mystery boxes, dinner, drinks and dancing. The success of this event relies on many moving parts including organized planners, gracious volunteers and the outreach of a caring community. Luckily, we had all of that and more! Volunteers – many from Noble’s Pond – hit the streets, going door to door to gain support from local business. Restaurants, beauty salons, spas, bookstores, boutiques, nearby beach businesses, and others donated auction items and gift cards. Food for the charity event was kindly provided by Georgia Bagel Boys, Don’s Sliders, Pizza Delight by Giacomo, Texas Road House, Bavarian Bakery, and La Baguette. And because no fundraiser is complete without music, Ida Poindexter Kirkendoll, offered her DJ services to help make the evening fun for all.
Girls’ Night Out is opened to the public and while most of the attendees are women, men showed their support by bartending at the Martinis and Cash Bar (a huge hit) and assisting with the auction. Nationally, the number of women diagnosed with MS is double than that of men, which is why the event pays special attention to the ladies while educating people about the disease. Together, this year’s group raised an incredible $18,238.95; the most money the event has raised thus far! The big money makers this year were the mystery boxes which contained various gift cards, the silent auction, and the 50/50 raffle which generated over $1,200! We are very grateful for the outreach, support, generosity and dedication of volunteers and participants; none of this is possible without it!
Noble’s Pond is a truly unique community. Homeowners here enjoy the best aspects of an active adult community including access to great amenities, beautiful right-sized homes, and the opportunity for enriching social activities. Events like Girls’ Night Out exemplify the giving spirit that is abundant here. Residents contribute time, talents, and treasure to various charitable events including the upcoming Toys for Tots and Joey’s Tree. Joey’s Tree is an annual event for which the community collects and donates Legos to hospitals as a tribute to residents John and JoAnne Lawson’s grandson, Joey, who sadly lost his life to cancer.
As the season of giving is upon us, we look forward to all the wonderful ways our Noble’s Pond community will rise to the occasion. From fighting MS to collecting toys, we are passionate about making this world a better place, especially for those in need.
